International Day Concert

At this point,we've managed to get about 9 people to sign up for the concert excluding those that have signed up with Mr. Russell which is a great improvement compared to having 4 last week :)
We decided that since the sign ups were quite slow,we would have to go around to the classes and make announcements in order to ensure that people were informed about it as opposed to just seeing it on one of the notice boards that were already filled with other announcements.
We have already allocated a group of people  (Thanks to Natasha) that will be arranging the hall and carrying the chairs and the piano into the gym.
One of the problems that we have already encountered is that Ms. Platt does not have enough supplies for the decorations such as making flags and whatnot. So we've decided to ask one of pur talented year 13s to help with that as well as find as many students that can actually bring in their countries' flags so that we could use those as well.
Other than that...everything seems to be going according to plan.

Basketball

Basketball this week, proved to be quite interesting. This week I was placed as a forward as opposed to being placed in the back last week. Unfortunately, since Mr Giddens and Mr Gray left,it seems as though some of the regular members may have forgotten the structure that we were used to last year. In addition to this, I definately tried to shoot more even though I missed all of my attempted shots. Next week,I plan on being more assertive and yelling whenever I'm free. I also need to make myself more available...for being passed to.
This of course, will involve a lot more movement around the court as well as the improvememnt of my lay-ups.
And I will definiately take pictures and videos next time.

New Term Plan

This term,we may be occupied with all our university applications so for now I will try and keep things simple. The clubs I will be partaking in are as follows:
1) Dance Club: Our first session in dance club will be this Thursday. We will be discussing how to film and record our dance medley that we completed last term
2)Basketball : First session this Wednesday. This term I would like to focus on my lay-ups as I never shoot using this method at all :/
3) (Tennis) : this has not been confirmed yet however,it is most definitely something that I will pursue by the end of this month..hopefully.

At the moment,we are organising the concert that follows on every afternoon of international day :D
I was asked to assist seeing as I organised the talent show at the end of the school year in July. I will also be participating in the talent show with David and Francesco, but that is not final as well :/ I'm sure that by the end of the week everything will be confirmed though. :)

Old Age home follow-up

I apologise for the late post but I am finally able to post pictures about my visit to the old-age home.
My sister and I spent the night baking about 98 cupcakes...the other two may have disappeared into our stomachs,I don't know how. We used cake mix as well as brownie mix to make the muffins and we made the icing as well! It was quite tiring though :/
At the old age home,we arranged the cupcakes onto plates along with the other snacks that others had brought and we served it to the residents after the small "concert" that was made for them.
Overall,it was a really interesting experience. Not to mention that I felt so much more happier after I left because I was able to contribute to their happiness :P
Next time,I'll be sure to get enough time to actually speak more to the residents as this time, we stayed quite late and the residents had to rush to their bungalows after the concert as there had been an incident that required them to now have a curfew to be home. :/
Hopefully, next year we'll visit more often as well as make more cupcakes! :)

Follow-up

This Saturday,I will be going to visit a local old age home that my sister recently found last year and has been regularly visiting with her singing group. My sister, her friend a I decided that we would bake a few cupcakes for them just to brighten things up. This will be the hardest part cos that'll mean baking about 100 cupcakes but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Stay tuned for the pictures!

This was my way of improving my baking while making others happy as well with the charity work.
Hopefully, pictures will follow tomorrow as well as recipes :D

Apologies!

This post is long overdue and for that I apologise. It's been three weeks since we finished school and I've had a few more ideas as to how I can continue my CAS activities. Unfortunately, I have not been able to post a plan due to unforeseen circumstances so I thought I would quickly skim through what I plan on doing this holiday and then attempt to post up pictures and more detailed posts as soon as I get the chance to.

  1. Donations of old clothes to those less fortunate
  2. Improvement on baking
  3. Visitations at old age homes
  4. Reading! :)
I really apologise for the abruptness of this post and I promise that the next time I post, there will be much more to read! :)

Talent Show- The Final Round

It didn't go as I expected it to go,but other than a few minor glitches,I guess I could say that it was enjoyed by the students :)
I prepared a checklist before hand to avoid me forgetting anything.
First of all,I had to run around the whole morning trying to find all the contestants and make sure they were actually there and had their equipment prepared as well as outfits. I also had to talk to Dina (the hostess) about what to say, when to say it,who was going in first and in what order. Thankfully,Mr Gray saved me the hassle of trying to organise the gym with the chairs, stage and P.A system. He also got a few of the guys to bring in the drum set and the piano which was very difficult for them so many thanks to them as well :D
The contestant had to be in the gym at lunch time in order for us to go through the whole show and see what it would be like and it was a bit hectic so I had to use my outside voice once or twice :)
According to my checklist, I realised that I needed someone to stay by the P.A system and turn the microphones on and off,or to adjust the volume to the microphones and music with the fading away and fading in. Luckily,I managed to get Pablo and Ndina to do this for me.
The judges were also told how to walk in and to what music they would be doing it do and if you ask me,they looked pretty intimidating especially with the music that was playing.
Concerning the voting process, the judges did a magnificent job! They made the atmosphere quite tense at one one point. We decided that from the 5 contestants,2 would be eliminated by the judges and then the audience would decide who would win 1st place,2nd place and 3rd place by moving around to the specified areas of the room. These were the winners:
  • 1st- Mr Gray and David (beatboxing and drums)
  • 2nd- Gaeun (piano)
  • 3rd- Louisa (singing)
I also got Han to video tape the entire show so hopefully I could have the footage by Monday or Tuesday.
I would NEVER have been able to achieve the show if it wasn't from the help I received from various people. So I would sincerely like to thank everyone that assisted in the whole setting up and preparation of the show. This includes Mr. & Mrs. Gray, Ms Oxana, Dina, Alyona,Polly, Julien,Mr Giddens, Yaroslav, Pablo,Ndina,David,Måns and Han.
Hopefully I didn't forget anyone...and If I did,I'm sorry :/
Stay tuned for the video of the show! :D
