Science Fair

We were asked a few weeks ago to present an experiment to the school children in School 4. At first we had about 3 idea to go with which were:
 a) Making an egg float
b) An imploding coca cola can
c) a balloon filled with water that cannot be burned.
Unfortunately,it was decided that these were not really appropriate so we went with Mr. Gray's idea of 'composite materials' which required the children to build a bridge out of spaghetti and marshmallows . We were allocated to the year group 5 and we planned on giving them a small presentation which would be fun but at the same time informative about composite materials. We made sure the presentation was short so that then we could divide the kids into groups of 3 so that they could begin their bridge-making. We turned it into a game where the children were provided with 15 pieces of marshmallow, a handful of spaghetti and 200 US dollars (the money was fake of course). The point of the game was to create a bridge that could be stable enough to hold the 4 mini animals that were given -an elephant,a rhino,a gorilla and a monkey between to books .The team that could achieve this would win chocolate and the fake money.
We had everything prepared on Thursday including the marshmallows and the spaghetti and rewards.  But unfortunately,on Friday when we came back to school in the morning the package was missing. So we had to pass by the store on the way to restock (Thank you Mr. Mase!)
When we arrived at the school we were given pretty clear and simple instructions as to where each group was to be taught and at what times. Year 3-6 were all in the hall. Overall, everything went better than expected except for the small things like we did not have enough time to set up our stations and it was hard and sticky to clean up after the children.
In conclusion,if there is to be a next time,we will keep our ingredients in sight at ALL times and we will perhaps demonstrate in greater depth about what is to be done with the pictures.

P.S pictures will be uploaded as soon as the email is delivered)

Dance Medley Progress

So far we have managed to mix  5 songs together but we still have about 3 more songs to add. The following    dance genres will be involved :
  • Hip Hop
  • Azonto
  • House
  • Kudoro
So far we have managed to dance to the first minute of the songs but the fusing and mixing of the songs proved to be very difficult and hard to work with as we changed from different dance genres. The most difficult one so far is the Kudoro as it involves a lot of jumping and hip movement and stuff. Hopefully, all will be done and perfected by the end of term.

Snow Day: Music Quiz

The music quiz went pretty well on Friday. I think this was because of the mixture of  music we had like from Michael Jackson to Ben E King to David Guetta. They Year 10s looked pretty amused by it and I'm sure they had a lot of fun. We had about 67 songs to choose from but we didn't play all of them because we knew they would get bored quickly and that would be disastrous. They were already loud when they were having fun and I didn't wanna find out how they would behave if they were bored, Just as we suspected,we had about 15 minutes left to kill at the end of the quiz. So we played charades which was even MORE successful. Even Mr. English joined in :O Overall,it was a pretty interesting experience. I think we learned from our previous mistakes from International Day and expected the worst, then made plans so that everything that could go wrong could easily be dealt with. Next time,we will take a few pictures because we were just REALLY busy with the Year 10s. Their energy was exhausting.
Since we forgot to take pictures,I will only be able to get pictures from some of the year 10s in a few days.

Winter Day

Me and a few of my friends volunteered to help out the Year 13s for Winter Day. The Year 10s will be going to a park for the first section of the day so we will have about 1h30 mins extra time to set up.  We will be providing the year 10s with entertainment until 13:20. So we decided to set up a music quiz where they'll be divided into groups and we'll play music and they have to guess the name of the song and the artist and the winners receive a price. This might be difficult because of how many might not know the songs that we chose but it's worth a shot. We have also planned for a game or 2 of charades in case we finish up to early as we learned from International Day that sometimes things don't always go as well. Wish us luck! :)

Parents Evening

We usually help out the teachers on Parents Evenings by making coffee and tea and serving parents and delivering the goods to the teachers so that there is no need for them to be walking around  and disrupting the meetings. It was actually a helpful experience. We learned how to interact with people as well as how to make pretty decent coffee. We also had to keep the station clean so that it looked appealing to the parents and this involved washing the cups and saucers ourselves. In addition to this, the water in the kettle had to be kept warm at all times but it was easier this time because there were 2 kettles where as before,we only had one. Overall it was enjoyable to work with others to make the parents happy :)
